A Mandolin Workshop

with Don Julin

Learn five essential jam session favorites from the 1930's swing era that sound great on the mandolin.

Jazz Is Not Dead: Volume II: Jam Session Essentials will feature five 1930's era swing tunes that sound great on the mandolin.
This five-week workshop will feature one swing standard per week.
Of course, we will cover the melody & chords, but the fun starts when we arrange/embellish/improvise with these tunes.
The tunes I have selected for this workshop are easy enough for intermediates to learn but offer enough complexity for the more advanced player.
A basic understanding of music theory will be helpful as we will explore scales, licks, arpeggios, and various soloing ideas.

The Tunes:

After You've Gone

Oh Lady Be Good

Sweet Sue

Minor Swing (two ways)

Nuages

What You Will Learn:

Melody

Chords & Rhythm Patterns

Harmonic Analysis

Improvisational Concepts
